Godstone is an ancient village in the county of Surrey with links back to Ethelred the Unready. This area was part of the Realm of King Ethelred the Unready who married a daughter of the Duke of Normandy, going on to have a son who became Edward the Confessor and a daughter, Goda who later married Eustace of Boulogne in 1050. Ethelred gave this land to Goda for her wedding and thus the original name of Walchnestead was changed to ‘Goda's Ton' and later became 'Godstone'.
With a charming village green complete with horse pond and cricket teams batting through the summer months, there is a traditional charm here in Godstone that is quintessentially English. With ample amenities, a choice of eateries, pubs and inns, specialist shops and historic churches and sites, Gosdstone is a pleasure to visit and enjoy.
