Blackpool

The epitome of British seaside resorts, Blackpool remains the country's favourite destination. There are so many reasons why Blackpool is such a firm favourite, aside from the nostalgia. The resort has retained a traditional feel to it, despite many facelifts and improvements to facilities and services. The trams till run as they always have and it is like stepping back in time to journey from Squires Gate to Fleetwood, enjoying the friendly atmosphere and scenery. There is a blending of the old with the new as the three, age old piers stand out to sea graced by modern entertainers. The huge 'Big Wheel' still thrills families as does its neighbouring state-of-the-art white knuckle rides; Blackpool is a melting pot and it does it well.

Blackpool is situated in Lancashire, in the North of England, on the Irish Sea. With easy access to the Lake District and the cities of Manchester and Liverpool, there is a wealth of things to do when holidaying in Blackpool. The excellent public transport system can place you anywhere in Lancashire that takes your fancy. That is, of course, if you can pull yourself away; Blackpool has enough entertainment to keep any visitor busy for weeks.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Britain, playing host to visitors from all over the world who seek out its thrills. It has the largest roller coaster in Europe; the 'Big One' drops you down with a view out over the beautiful coast for the ride of your life. This amusement park has been around since 1896, when Alderman William George Bean bought the 42 acre site on which the Pleasure Beach now stands. Various rides, including the still popular Sir Hiram Maxim Flying Machines, were introduced to the area. The First World War curtailed further development of the site until 1921 when it became possible to import new rides from the USA. Today, it is as exciting and innovative in this century as it was when it was first built.

Blackpool earned its place as Britain's most popular holiday destination for many reasons, all of which will make your stay here exciting, pleasurable and very memorable. From the top of the famous Blackpool Tower you can take in the incredible expanse of coastline that Blackpool covers and on a bright day, maybe even see out to Ireland. You can ride the 'Big One', an incredible roller coaster, witness the biggest mirror ball in the world plus enjoy world-class shows, cosmopolitan restaurants, vibrant nightlife, an active sports scene and the breathtakingly beautiful scenery of the Lancashire countryside and coast.
