Ystrad Meurig

Ystrad Meurig is a village in Ceredigion, Wales, neighbouring the town of Tregaron. The village features the remains of what appeared to be a motte and bailey castle that would have been founded in the 12th century by Gilbert de Clare. However, excavations by Lampeter University suggest that it was much more complex than previously thought that this was once the site of the royal llys or hall complex of the Ceredigion kings and princes between the middle of the 6th Century and the end of the 9th Century. A Roman "entrenchment" known as Rhiwllwyd is also visible on a nearby hill. It has been linked to the ancestors of the Anwyl of Tywyn Family, in 13th Century.
