The large town of Yelverton in the attractive county of Devon lies on the main road between Plymouth and Tavistock and is at the edge of Dartmoor. The moor is an area protected by National Park status with granite upland that dates from the Carboniferous period of geological history. The wildlife, flora and fauna of the area are rich in diversity and Yelverton offers easy access to the deepest parts of the moor. It was the coming of the railways in the 19th century that brought prosperity, growth and development to the town as Plymouth commuters settled here.
Yelverton has a choice of eateries and pubs as well as some amenities and shops and is within easy reach of more developed towns as well as a host of visitor attractions nearby. ‘The Rock’ is a large, unique formation associated with Yelverton; this visible mass of stone is at the edge of nearby Roborough Down. It is the countryside and the diverse geology, flora, fauna and wildlife that bring visitors here, to explore the moors and surrounding region on foot, by car or by bicycle.
