Yeadon

The county of West Yorkshire is home to the town of Yeadon, northwest of the city of Leeds and the location of one of the oldest fish and chip shops in the world; the shop was established in the 1870s and is located on Sandy Way, just off the cobbled hill of Town Street. The town is typical of the West Yorkshire are, with buildings built mainly of stone in a style more similar to Bradford than Leeds.

A key visitor attraction here is Yeadon Tarn (also known as Yeadon Dam), located between High Street and the airport runway. For sailing and fishing, bird watching, the Mallard ducks, swans and a sizeable population of Canada Geese – you couldn’t ask for more than Yeadon Tarn.

Yeadon’s town centre and most of the businesses are situated around the High Street and on Fridays, the Yeadon Market is held in the historic Town Hall square. The Town Hall is also worth a visit. When it was first built in the Victorian era, it was situated in the middle of densely packed buildings. These buildings used to make up the cobble stone square that stands in front of the Town Hall today.
