The suburban village of Yateley in the county of Hampshire has grown from what was described as ‘a woodland clearing’ in the early 13th century, to become a desirable place to live and visit. Yateley lies at the edge of the county, where Hampshire meets Berkshire and Surrey. Growth and development came as a result of Yateley’s position on the main road from London to Exeter, making it an ideal stopping point for coaches. The peak of the coaching era from 1750 to 1835 saw investment and population growth for Yateley.
Yateley is still a place of commuters, where many residents travel each working day to the nearby city of London. The sense of community still exists too, with two pretty village greens and other open spaces as well as ample amenities, shops, eateries and pubs. The Yateley Common Country Park is a popular destination for visitors and residents alike, with around 500 acres of picturesque woodlands, heathland and ponds to walk, cycle, ride and enjoy. This wonderful space has a rich variety of wildlife, flora and fauna as well as the opportunity to fish and get involved in practical conservation through volunteering.
