Worthen

The village of Worthen in Shropshire lies in the scenic Rea Brook valley, home to two small rivers; one of which journeys to become the River Rea and the other that goes on to eventually join the River Severn. Worthen and the surrounding Rea Brook Valley are popular destinations for walkers, outdoor enthusiasts and bird-watchers in particular as the area is noted for its diverse flora, fauna and wildlife including otters and kingfishers. Just south of Worthen is the Stiperstones, a uniquely distinctive hill that was formed some 480 million years ago and at 536 metres above sea level, is the second highest hill in the county.

 

Wrthen is a small, traditional village where the village church of All Saints is a key feature and the surrounding landscape offers a wealth of outdoor activities, walks and views to enjoy. Worthen offers some amenities but is within easy reach of nearby settlements offering additional choices for dining, leisure and shopping. The Stiperstones National Nature Reserve and in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are what bring most visitors to the area, along with the Bromlow Callow, known for the small clump of trees on top and Long Mountain to the north.
