Located in the picturesque county of Surrey, is the large town of Woking. This is a great place to visit if you love shopping, dining, entertainment and the arts and if you like golf, then Woking offers more than a dozen glorious and challenging golf courses designed to suit players of all levels, within easy reach. The main shopping areas are focused around the modern Peacocks Shopping Centre and the older Wolsey Place shops.
For a broad choice of evening entertainment, the Chertsey Road area is where you will find restaurants serving a variety of cuisines, alongside numerous bars and pubs. The nearby Ambassadors cinema and New Victoria Theatre are open throughout the year with a varied programme of entertainment.
Woking has found its place in literature too as the town in which the Martians first landed in H. G. Wells' science fiction novel ‘The War of the Worlds’. Later, Woking again features in a literary classic, ‘The Meaning of Liff’ by Douglas Adams; this time as the word for when you go to the kitchen but forget why.
Woking is home to a unique, new arts and heritage centre called 'The Lightbox'. This modern structure is located next to the Basingstoke Canal and was designed by architects Marks Barfield, who were also the architects responsible for the design of the iconic London Eye.
