Wisbech is a pretty market town and inland port in the Fenland area of the county of Cambridgeshire. Wisbech is located on the River Nene with some of the most beautiful Georgian architecture in the country; the North Brink alongside the river is described as one of the most perfect Georgian streets in England and it is in Wisbech that the BBC drama David Copperfield was filmed. The drainage of the Fens brought great prosperity here as Wisbech grew as a market town and a port and the wealth is visible in the architecture.
Key places of interest to the visitor include is the National Trust’s Peckover House that was built in 1722 for a Quaker banking family and has a fine walled garden; and the Wisbech & Fenland Museum that takes you back in time to the heyday of the Victorian era with a wealth of local and natural history, geology and folk life along with a library housing around 10,000 books of the 18th and 19th century and so much more.
