Wingate

Wingate is a village in County Durham; one of the most beautiful counties in England, with miles of unspoilt countryside, an attractive coastline and a World Heritage site located in this county. In its past, Wingate was a pit village and has a documented history dating back to the 16^th century; when first evidence of settlement here occurred. Wingate experienced major growth along with the mining industry in the 19th century and became a large settlement with a key role in the area.

Today’s village of Wingate is actually located about two miles east of the original settlement, which is now called Old Wingate; and makes up, what has evolved into a self- contained, welcoming community. Visitors can enjoy typical village amenities, traditional pub and ample attractions in the area, as well as nearby historic sites.
