The market town of Wimborne in the beautiful county of Dorset is situated between the Rivers Stour and Allen. There has been a settlement here since prehistoric times and the town was later settled by the Romans. The sister of the King of Wessex, built a nunnery here in 705 on the site where the present Wimborne Minster stands; this Saxon Church with its Norman and Gothic architecture is a feature of the town and worth taking the time to explore. It houses a unique chained library as well as the tombs of King Ethelred and the grandparents of King Henry VII.
Wimborne is rich in charm and offers the visitor a wealth of visitor and cultural attractions and historic sites, including; the Priest House Museum, Kingston Lacy House, art galleries, the 1930’s Tivoli Theatre and of course The Minster. There are plenty of shops, eateries, pubs and pretty tea-rooms too. A popular place with visitors is the Model Town and Gardens; a 1/10th scale version of the town as it was in the 1950’s.
