Weybridge

The town of Weybridge is within the county of Surrey, along the River Thames to the north and at the mouth of the River Wey. The town was founded and named for the crossing of the River Wey back in the 13th century. This river was one of the first canalised rivers in England to provide Guilford, the county town of Surrey, with access for its goods to the world via the Thames and London. It was the coming of the of the railways in the 19th century that brought development to this once tranquil village; with the opening of the London and Southampton Railway that put Weybridge within easy reach of the City of London. Grand villas appeared in St George's Hill and it remains one of the most sought after areas around London.

Weybridge offers good shopping and amenities as well as pubs, restaurants, cultural and historic sites. At the bottom of Monument Hill is a monument that was erected to the Duchess of York who is buried in St. James's Churchyard. The famous former Brooklands Aerodrome and Motor Circuit of 1907 is now the location of the Brooklands Museum where much of the local history can be explored. As the site of the world's first leisure campsite that was set up nearby in 1901, Weybridge is a great destination for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits, lovely walks and beautiful scenery.
