Wetheral is an English village within the City of Carlisle in Cumbria. Scotby, Aglionby, and Cumwhinton are also close by, together forming one of the most affluent areas of the county. The village commands a breathtaking view overlooking the gorge of the River Eden, and the local area is a very popular beauty spot featuring Wetheral Woods, which is owned by the National Trust. The gatehouse of the ruined Wetheral Priory is also an interesting local feature. Wetheral follows a traditional village layout, focusing around a central village green, which is overlooked by The Wheatsheaf pub, The Crown Hotel, a hairdresser, a general store and the village hall.
As well as providing ease of access to the Lake District National Park, the village also offers an excellent base from which to explore the historic north of the county, including the local attractions of Carlisle Cathedral, Hardian's Wall, Caslisle Castle, Border Reivers Cycle Trail, and the Birdsowald Roman Fort.
