The pretty town of West Wickham in the county of Kent lies on the old Roman road, the London to Lewes Way, placing it historically in a very busy place. This settlement grew to become a village and by 1469, the Manor of West Wickham was fit to be purchased by the lawyer Henry Heydon who rebuilt the manor house and the parish church. Prosperity followed and by 1801 West Wickham had become favourite destination for the cream if society. Growth made it necessary to widen the High Street in order to accommodate more shops and following the Second World War, the town became a major shopping centre with a business community.
West Wickham is surrounded by fertile Kent countryside and has good amenities, boasting a great range of shops, eateries and pubs as well as leisure facilities, several parks and open spaces and a historic railway station. The railway line through West Wickham was built by the West Wickham & Hayes Railway on a branch line between Elmers End and Hayes in 1882.
