West Linton

West Linton is a village in the Scottish Borders council area, which was formerly within the county of Peeblesshire until the local government re-organisation of 1975. It is largely a commuter settlement as Edinburgh is only 16 miles away to the north east.

West Linton is best known for holding the annual Whipman summer festival, which and is one of the Borders' oldest festivals, commencing on the Friday that precedes the first Saturday in June, and ending the following Saturday. The Whipman Play Society was established in 1803 as a philanthropic effort by local young men to raise funds to support the sick and impoverished of the community, at a time when there was no government support available.
