Welwyn Garden City is a notable town within the county of Hertfordshire and as its name suggests, is indeed a garden city. Founded by Sir Ebenezer Howard in the 1920s
and designed by Louis de Soissons, Howard had led a call for the creation of new towns of limited size, planned in advance and surrounded by a permanent belt of agricultural land, as a role model for lower-density urban development. The town is laid out along tree-lined boulevards with a neo-Georgian town centre and towns like this are of interest to town developers as the ethos of the garden city is much admired. The type of neighbourhood and community advocated by Howard were the perfect blend of city and nature that exemplifies the art of physical, social and cultural planning ideals.
Because of its historical importance. Welwyn Garden City attracts visitors from around the world. When visiting, take in the delights of the attractive avenues of Parkway and Howardsgate, with the coronation fountain at their intersection; the Mill Green Museum and Stanborough Lakes offering a pleasant recreational area with fishing, boating, swimming as well as wide open spaces. There is a wealth of good shopping and fine dining available as well as lively pubs and bars for visitors to enjoy too.
