Welwyn is a village in central Hertfordshire, in England. It is one of a cluster of villages and smaller towns, including the newer settlement of Welwyn Garden City, and is scenically situated in the valley of the River Mimram. the village began as an Iron Age settlement in the 1st century BC, and again by the Romans. The remains of a Roman bath house in the village are open to visitors. By the 17th century it developed as a staging post, which has left the village a good number of traditional pubs and inns, along with a well-developed high street and good transport links.
Attractions in the area include Shaws Corner (the home of George Bernard Shaw), Knebworth House (visiting place of Elizabeth I and Charles Dickens), Mill Green Museum and Mill, Stevenage Museum, Hatfield House, Celtic Harmony Camp, and St Albans Cathedral.
