Wells-Next-the-Sea

The attractive town and seaport of Wells-next-the-Sea was once a major port here in the diverse county of Norfolk. The port thrived in the late 16th century primarily from the trade in corn that contributed to the town’s prosperity. There were many towns called Wells in the vicinity so early in the 1800’s, ‘next-the-Sea’ was added for clarity. Fisherman still bring their catch here as they have since the earliest settlement; although they are now joined by visitors who come to enjoy the long sweeping beach bordered by pine woodland, friendly town and gentle harbour unspoiled by time or crowds.

Wells-next-the-Sea has shops, independent traders, ample amenities, fine restaurants and cosy traditional pubs as well as a host of vibrant events held throughout the year. The Wells Carnival Week is a popular, vibrant event held every year and is the highlight of the summer. Well offers a pretty tree-lined park, fine Georgian houses country walks and plenty to enjoy both in the town and surrounding area.
