Wealden

The area of Wealden in the pretty county of East Sussex is named for The Weald that is situated between the parallel chalk escarpments of the North and the South Downs. This is a stunning area rich in diverse geology, wildlife, flora and fauna. The Weald was once a vast forest that covered the area and now consists of three separate parts; the sandstone of High Weald at the centre, the clay of Low Weald at the edges and the Greensand Ridge reaching out around the north and west and includes the Weald's highest points. Long-distance trails take visitors through the area along picturesque paths including the South Downs Way, Monarch's Way, Sussex Border Path and the Wealdway.

 

Wealden is in an area with charming villages and outstanding landmarks popular with visitors including; Beachy Head, the Seven Sisters and Cuckmere Haven just along the coast. Along with the Long Man of Wilmington and high points along the South Downs that offer panoramic views, Wealden is the destination for walkers, climbers, bird-watchers and nature lovers.
