Waufawr

The large village of Waunfawr in Gwynedd, Wales lies at the edge of the magnificent Snowdonia National Park in an area rich with wildlife habitats and diverse flora, fauna and natural scenery. The Bryn Pistyll Site here is a popular visitor attraction in the village and a great place to learn more about the area with a nature park, gardens and nursery, museum, a shop selling local crafts and produce as well as a cafe and children’s play area.

Waunfawr offers ample amenities, shops, eateries and pubs as well as visitor and cultural attractions in the area and sites of interest. Waunfawr is well known for its association with the telegraph and the Marconi Company in particular. Marconi built a large high-powered Long Wave Wireless Telegraph transmitting station near the village in 1914 that worked with its receiving station at Tywyn and initiated the commercial transatlantic wireless service from London to New York in 1920. The new transmitter replaced Marconi's transatlantic wireless service from Clifden after it was destroyed during the Irish Civil War of 1922.
