Watford is a commuter town in Hertfordshire, that serves central London. It was created as an urban district under the Local Government Act of 1894, although it existed as a settlement since at least the Anglo-Saxon period due to its location on a low hill where travellers between London and the Midlands forded the River Colne on an ancient trackway off the Roman Watling Street. The town offers good shopping prospects, a choice of quality holiday accommodation and various entertainment venues for all ages and preferences, along with excellent transport links to all the sites of London and the South East as a whole.
