Waterbeach

Waterbeach is a large village located neighbouring Cambridge, on the edge of the Cambridgeshire Fens, in England. This is an historical village situated on the Car Dyke, which is a Roman waterway used for transportation purposes that is thought to have led as far as Lincoln. There is strong archaeological evidence to suggest that there was a Roman settlement at the southern end of the village.

The Knights Templar also had strong links with the area in the 12th century as they were based at Denny Abbey, which is located to the north of the village and is now a Scheduled Ancient Monument housing the Farmland Museum. The site of Waterbeach Abbey in the town is also a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

Waterbeach is situated among a large knot of pretty villages in a more rural part of the county, which is popular for its scenic walks and well-placed traditional public houses that provide real ales and home-cooked meals along the way. Popular attractions in the area include Linton Zoo, Peterborough Cathedral, Ramsey Abbey, the University of Cambridge Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, the Nene Valley Railway, and the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, to name only a few.
