Warlingham

The large village of Warlingham is at the edge of London in the county of Surrey, with parts of the village at 650 feet; offering magnificent panoramic views over central London and its skyscrapers Canary Wharf, the Gherkin and the NatWest tower. The view was far more dramatic and tragic though during the Second World War, when the village was witness to the Battle of Britain that was being fought in the skies above this part of Surrey. It was the proximity of the former RAF bases of Biggin Hill and Kenley that put Warlingham at the heart of the activity. Planes were coming from either direction as RAF fighters intercepted German bombers that were headed to London along the valley that became known as ‘Bombers’ Alley'.

Warlingham is ideally placed for those who work in the easily accessed City of London and nearby Croydon yet benefits from being within the attractive Green Belt and North Downs area. The village is centred on a pretty, triangular village green where you will find ample amenities and shops, eateries and pubs. The scenic beauty of the woodlands and rolling hills of the North Downs surrounds the village, with areas in the valley designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The wildlife, flora and fauna is easily observed and enjoyed at the Blanchman's Farm Nature Reserve. The historic events of World War two are remembered in the village at the Warlingham War Memorial that is a central feature here.
