The town of Wadebridge in the scenic county of Cornwall, lies along the River Camel and became significant after the building of a bridge across the river in 1460. It is said that the Wadebridge Bridge is built on foundations of wool; whether that is actual wool sacks or on the profits of the industry, is unclear. The bridge has been widened at various times in its history to reflect the changing modes of transport and use. When the railways came in the early 19th century, the Wadebridge Railway Line was opened and although it has since ceased to operate, the old line is still a popular place. Known as the ‘Camel Trail’ it attracts nature lovers, bird watchers, walkers and cyclists. The 17 miles of this route connect Wadebridge with the town of Padstow and Pooley's Bridge and is rich with diverse flora, fauna and wildlife
Wadebridge offers plenty for visitors to enjoy and the main shopping street has a good choice of shops, amenities, pubs and eateries as well as sites of interest. Being a popular destination for walkers, there are many lovely walks along the pristine coastline and the beaches host events and water sports activities. The Camel Estuary
is a major tourist attraction in Cornwall, famed for its long expanses of sandy beaches, mild climate and majestic rugged landscape.
