The small village of Umberleigh in the attractive county of Devon lies in a tranquil haven of countryside that is unspoilt and picturesque. The area is noted for its wonderful walks with superb river walks from the village, under the bridge and towards Barnstaple downstream. Umberleigh is home to one of the stations on the well known Tarka Line between Barnstaple and Exeter that is named after Henry Williamson's bestselling ‘Tarka the Otter’ book and like many of the stations on this line, is considered frequently for the Best Kept Station awards.
Umberliegh’ position alongside the River Taw amidst sumptuous countryside makes it the ideal destination for bird-watchers, walkers, cyclists and those with a love of the outdoors. With some amenities, tea rooms and a choice of pubs as well as close proximity to other local villages and major towns, Umberleigh is a great base for exploring the area and its visitor attractions. The village is home to the Cobbaton Combat Collection, a unique military museum that houses a collection of vehicles and exhibits dating from the long distant Boer War up to present-day conflicts.
