The seaside resort town of Tywyn in Gwnedd, Wales lies on the picturesque Cardigan Bay coast with stunning natural scenery and extensive dunes. The mouth of the Afon Dysynni is to the north and the rich farmlands of Bro Dysynni to the south; surrounding Tywyn with green valleys and hills leading all the way to the Snowdonia National Park. Tywyn is well known as the place where an early Marconi radio station was sited and home to the Talyllyn Railway; a narrow-gauge preserved railway that opened in 1866 and runs for 7.25 miles from Tywyn to Nant Gwernol near the village of Abergynolwyn. The railway was originally designed to carry slate from the quarries and was the first narrow gauge railway in Britain authorised by Act of Parliament to carry passengers using steam haulage. In 1951 the Talyllyn Railway became the first in the world to be preserved as a heritage railway by volunteers.
Tywyn’s High Street offers ample amenities, a choice of chops, eateries and pubs as well as historic and attractive buildings including the Market Hall and St. Cadfan's Church, an important site of religious pilgrimage. Marine Parade along the seafront is where visitors come to enjoy the scenery, the four miles of sandy beach and the extensive promenade.
