Troutbeck

The hamlet of Troutbeck in the scenic county of Cumbria lies just a few mile from the popular tourist destination of Windermere. A tranquil place situated in a conservation area, Troutbeck is home to the renowned National Trust property of Townend House. The property was built in 1626 for a local statesman, George Brown and was owned by the family up until 1943 when the National Trust took over. Townend House today, presents a fascinating look at the life of the family throughout the changing centuries and is the most famous of all the statesman's houses in Cumbria.

 

Troutbeck is a quaint and quiet hamlet amidst beautiful natural scenery that draws walkers, nature lovers and bird-watchers to the area throughout the year. Fans of Beatrix Potter come too as the author used to live in the village and breed sheep at Troutbeck Park Farm; now owned by the National Trust. Some amenities, a shop, pub and hotel are here but with Windermere just three miles away, there is plenty of choice in the area for dining and shopping.
