Tring is a small market town in the scenic Chiltern Hills area of Hertfordshire, within commuting distance of London.
It is positioned in the north west of the county, low in the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is named after the Tring Gap, which has been used as a passage through the hills for millenia, for which reason it became the junction of the ancient Icknield Way and the Roman Akeman Street. The ancient earthwork known as Grim's Dyke is also located here, along side the Grand Union Canal, which is served by Trings four reservoirs, which are also nature reserves and sites of special scientific interest.
Attractions in the area include the Ashridge Estate, Oak Farm Animal Park, ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, Ascott, Milton's Cottage, and Verulamium Museum.
