Treorchy is a large village and former town of the Rhondda Fawr valley in Wales, which grew substantially with the discovery of coal in the valley but subsequently shrank again with the decline of the coal mining industry. As such, the town has returned largely to its agricultural roots, yet still benefits from the more substantial amenities and shopping outlets typical of a town. This makes the village a very pleasant vantage point from which to explore the beautiful landscape, the culture and the fascinating history of the region as a whole from a more peaceful setting.
A few examples of the various popular attractions of the area are: the Dare Valley Country Park, the Rhondda Heritage Park, Cynon Valley Museum & Gallery, The Pit Pony Sanctuary, and the Taff Trail.
