Trefriw

The village of Trefriw in Conwy, Wales lies in a heavily wooded area of diverse landscapes on the river Conwy and within the Snowdonia National Park; an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty popular with walkers, climbers and outdoor enthusiasts. Trefriw was once a thriving port and resort until the silting of the River Conwy and was renowned for its woollen mills that brought employment and growth to the village. The river Crafnant flows to join the river Conwy here and still provides power for the existing woollen mill. The Romans were amongst the first to discover the pleasures of the nearby chalybeate spa that was further developed in the late 17th century. The waters of the spa have a high iron content and were classified as medicinal.

Trefriw offers ample amenities and is within easy reach of other towns and villages offering additional choices for dining, shopping and leisure. Within the area are a host of visitor attractions, listed buildings, historic sites and places of interest to explore including; the environmentally kind Trefriw Woollen Mills which design and weave tweeds and bedspreads, carrying out the processes from fleece to fabric utilising self-generated electricity and of course the Trefriw Wells Spa with waters benefitting tens of thousands of visitors. The Spa Museum is a fascinating place to discover more with artefacts and exhibits. For walkers and outdoor enthusiasts, Trefriw and the surrounding area offer wonderful walks, fishing and golf as well as cycle and riding paths.
