The large town and seaside resort of Torquay in the attractive county of Devon is known to many as the 'Queen of the Riviera' as it is blessed by its location amongst seven green hills, overlooking the pretty harbour side and marina. In the past, Torquay’s economy relied on fishing and agriculture but in the early 19th century the town began to prosper as a resort destination. The renowned author Agatha Christie was born and lived here and there is much to explore and unravel that she would have enjoyed; an "Agatha Christie Mile" offers visitors a tour with plaques, dedicated to her life and work.
Torquay has it all, from a healthy climate and nine wonderful beaches to an excellent choice of shops, eateries, restaurants, bars and pubs and sites of interest. The magnificent Kents Cavern, the World War II slipways at Beacon Quay, palm-lined promenades, bustling marina and boundless beautiful countryside offering magnificent views, Torquay is quite simply an exceptional place to visit.
