Thanet

Thanet is a settlement in the local government district of Kent of the same name, in south-east England. The Isle of Thanet makes up the major part of the District. Thanet is actually a shortened name for The Isle of Thanet, and it forms the most easterly point of the county of Kent, which was formerly separated from the mainland by the 2000 feet wide, River Wantsum, which has since silted over.

Archaeological remains indicate that the Isle of Thanet was the location of quite a large Stone Age settlement. Finds include a large hoard of Bronze Age implements, which were discovered at Minster-in-Thanet. Today, the Isle is a popular tourist destination, due to the number of sandy beaches and interesting wildlife habitats.
