Thames Ditton

Thames Ditton is a large village in Surrey, England, within Greater London. This is the ideal location for holiday maker seeking the tranquillity and traditional atmosphere of an ancient village together with the benefit of close proximity to England's capital. It features an old-fashioned High Street housing a bakery, a pharmacy, a greengrocer, a florist, a general store/post office, and a delicatessen, along with a good choice of pubs, restaurants and holiday accommodation.

Thames Ditton is known to have been established as a moderate settlement since at least the Anglo-Saxon era, but in 1514, Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, the favourite advisor of King Henry VIII, built Hampton Court Palace just on the opposite bank of the Thames, bringing increased prosperity to the village, particularly after 1525, when the cardinal fell out of favour with the king, who then claimed the palace for his own use. Palace officials and members of the court then began to make their homes in Thames Ditton.
