Tetbury

Tetbury is a popular town within the Cotswold district of Gloucestershire, England. It was founded on the site of an ancient hill fort as an Anglo-Saxon monastery. By the Middle Ages, the town held a significant market for the trade of Cotswold wool and yarn, and it upon this basis that the Tetbury Woolsack Races began, which involves running up a steep hill carrying a 60 pound sack of wool. The races still take place in the town every year on Woolsack Day, which also features an annual fair.

The town is characterised by the typical Cotswold limestone, a 17th century Market House, while boasting a scenic rolling landscape and a pleasantly busy high street, which is populated with a good number of privately owned businesses, coffee shops and tearooms. Tetbury has won the regional gold award for the Heart of England in Bloom numerous times, with an additional Silver Gilt prise in the National Britain in Bloom Campaign of 2009.

Attractions in the area include the Chavenage Elizabethan House, Westonbirt Arboretum, Rodmarton Manor, and the Castle Combe Circuit.
