The large village of Tarporley in the county of Cheshire is on the fertile Cheshire Plain, famous for its dairy herds with meadows, pasture and woodland. There has been a settlement here since prehistoric times and was of sufficient importance to be mentioned in the Domesday Book and by 1297 was granted a market. Evidence of the history of Tarporley can be found in its architecture; the beautiful St.Helen's Church is an excellent example as is the Manor House dated from 1586. Growth and prosperity came through the 18th century as the village became an important centre for agriculture and a staging post for the London to Chester coach. The later development of the Chester and Ellesmere Canal and the railway station at Beeston added again to the number of travellers.
Tarporley still holds a regular country market on the first Saturday of each month and welcomes visitors with ample amenities, shops, eateries and pubs. There are many historic sites, buildings and attractions in the area as well as lovely surrounding open spaces, meadows and pastures of the Cheshire Plain for visitors to explore and enjoy.
