The coastal city of Swansea in the Welsh county of Glamorgan, is the second-largest city in Wales and sits on the five-mile sweep of Swansea Bay. At its peak of activity and prosperity in the 19th century, Swansea was at the heart of the world’s copper industry and was sometimes referred to as 'Copperopolis'. From its early start as a Viking trading base, through the Norman Conquest and onto today, the City Centre has continued to grow and now extends seaward into the award-winning Marina and Maritime Quarter.
Visitors to the Marina will find a host of attractions, including the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea Museum, the Dylan Thomas Centre and the LC leisure complex and waterpark. Back in the heart of this vibrant city, shopping, dining, cultural attractions, a wide range of clubs, bars and pubs as well as historic sites, offer plenty to see and do. The Swansea Market is the largest indoor market in Wales, with a varied selection of locally grown produce, cockles and locally-caught fresh fish, laverbread and of course, the very traditional ‘Welshcakes’.
