Surbiton

Surbiton lies within an easy commute to central London and is in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, alongside the River Thames. Once a small agricultural village until the railways opened up a world of opportunity along with Surbiton Station in 1838; Surbiton’s success came as a result of its geographical location, offering links to both London and the coast. When the area was less populous, it was the inspiration for artists; John Everett Millais used the Hogsmill, close to Tolworth Court Bridge, as the background for his painting ‘Ophelia’ and William Holman Hunt painted ‘The Hireling Shepherd’ here, using the fields to the south as the background. Also of note, the novelist Thomas Hardy lived in a house called 'St. David's Villa' here in the 1870’s and Enid Blyton worked here as a governess from 1918 to 1922.

Surbiton is a popular residential area with a thriving population and London just 20 minutes away by train. Surbiton itself has an excellent shopping centre as well as independent shops and chain store outlets as well as a vibrant bar and café culture here, visitors will be spoilt for choice with pubs, bars and restaurants.
