Strathaven is an historic market town in the Scottish council area of South Lanarkshire. Formerly a burgh of barony, the town's main industry was once in the weaving industry until its role in the trade declined in favour of the city of Glasgow, for which is now serves mainly as a commuter settlement and as a commercial centre for the surrounding Avondale area.
The town is situated in a scenic location by the valley of the Avon Water, neighbouring the towns of Hamilton and East Kilbride, and is approximately 23 miles away from Glasgow city centre. It has a varied high street that includes a range of craft and gift shops, independent shops, and the usual chain stores.
