Stow on the Wold

Stow-on-the-Wold is an idyllic market town in the Gloucestershire, Cotswolds of England, near the Welsh border. It is located at the top of an 800 foot high hill, with panoramic views of this famous English tourist region and excellent transport links. The town was founded deliberately by Norman lords due to the amount of passing trade at the convergence of several major roads. A settlement is believed to have existed on the hill since the Iron Age, however, as it is such a key defensive position for fort and several others are known in the area. The area also has a very high proportion of Stone Age and Bronze Age burial mounds.
