Stockport is a large town near Manchester in Northern England. It is situated on the River Mersey. Stockport is historically linked with the textiles and clothing manufacturing industry and was once the centre of the country's hatting industry, the heritage of which can be explored at the Hat Works Museum of Hatting.
The town is pleasantly situated in a notably scenic area of the country among the rolling highland landscape and river valleys of the Mersey and its tributaries between the Cheshire Peak District and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The Stockport Viaduct, built in 1840, is a popular site to visit on one of the many walkers and cyclist routes in the area. Attractions of the local area include the Chester Cathedral, Chester Zoo, The National Waterways Museum, and Go Ape! - High Wire Forest Adventure.
