Stanford-le-Hope

Stanford-le-Hope is a town in the county of Essex that is within Thurrock. In close proximity to London, Stanford is home to many commuters and it is this location and the advent of the railways that led to the town’s development. The railway station here was opened in September 1854 as part of the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway. The Thurrock History Museum is a great place to explore the history of this area, going back over 250,000 years. The museum tells its story of mammoths from Aveley, the earliest known Thurrock coins dating to 75 BC, Roman Pottery, Saxon artefacts and medieval finds.

 

Stanford-le-Hope has a core community seeking to improve the town and bring events to the town. Visitors flock to the area to enjoy the large Lakeside Shopping Centre and retail park with its varied shops, cinemas, eateries and entertainment. As well as the town centre and Lakeside, the Thurrock Yacht Club and River Thames offer picturesque views for the visitor to enjoy.
