It is located between the towns of Chorley and Wigan, with good access to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, making this a popular retreat for holiday makers looking for a traditional English break, ideal for fishing and relaxing walks in the surrounding countryside. Standish is also a very good vantage point from which to explore the major cities and tourist attractions of the wider area, including Manchester, Preston and countless sites of historical interest, including Samlesbury Hall and the village's own grade I listed church of Saint Wilfred.
