Spean Bridge is an attractive village settlement in the magnificent Highlands region of Scotland. It gets its name from the bridge that crosses the River Spean between Fort William and Fort Augustus, on General Wade's military road (not Telford's bridge in the village centre). Commandos and United States Army Rangers based at nearby Achnacarry, were trained in the area around the village between 1942 and 1945. It is situated in the Great Glen, with good transport links north towards Inverness and south to Fort William, with direct A-road access and the Spean Bridge railway station, which provides links to London.
