Southwold

The charming seaside town of Southwold on the North Sea coast is in the county of Suffolk. The heritage here is tied to the sea and Southwold's links with it are still prevalent; with a working lighthouse, pretty beach huts, an award-winning pier, busy harbour and cliff-top cannon. Located at the mouth of the River Blyth, this area is the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the town is made glorious by the abundance of stunning natural scenery.  Southwold is virtually an island, surrounded as it is by the North Sea, the River Blyth and Southwold harbour with just one road accessing it. Visitors have long enjoyed this seaside resort and Southwold Pier, built in 1900, was made long enough to accommodate the Belle steamers which carried trippers along the coast. The Southwold Museum tells the town’s story with exhibits revealing the local and natural history of the town.

Southwold is a thriving resort with the sea and beach offering all the delights of an English seaside town with the colourful beach huts, shops and kiosks, boating lake and the pier that rewards the visitor with superb views of the seafront and town. To the south is the busy harbour where the River Blyth and the North Sea meet. The town centre has historic buildings, interesting shops, traditional pubs, a Market Place and cultural as well as visitor attractions.
