The small village of Southwaite is in the picturesque county of Cumbria, in the Eden District; named after the River Eden which flows north through to Carlisle. Set amidst the stunning scenery and diverse flora, fauna and wildlife of this area as well as the nearby River Petteril, Southwaite is perfect for visitors who enjoy outdoor activities.
Although Southwaite is just a small settlement, nearby are a wealth of visitor attractions, historic sites and other charming villages and towns. Within reach is the Carlisle Racecourse, the 15th century Priory Gatehouse and the historic Hutton-in-the-Forest, with fine collections of furniture, tapestries, portraits and ceramics. The Southwaite services are just outside the village and serve the travellers passing through this popular area. Fell walking, mountain biking and bird watching are easy to enjoy here and the coast to coast path and C2C pass close by.
