Southminster is an historic and pleasant village situated on the Dengie peninsula. It was once a major horse market town and hare coursing location in Victorian times. The nearby Pandole Wood contains an ancient earthwork believed to date from the Iron Age. The town neighbours Burnham-on-Crouch, Maldon and Saint Lawrence Bay.
The village boasts excellent transport links, and good choice of holiday accommodation, including several caravan parks, hotels and guest houses, along with good local shopping prospects and a varied selection of pubs and restaurants. Popular attractions in the wider area include Colchester Castle, Colchester Zoo, Waltham Abbey, Mangapps Railway Museum, Epping Forest, and Hedingham Castle, to name only a handful, along with all the sites and attractions of London, which is just a stone's throw away.
