Queensferry is a town and suburb of the City of Edinburgh. It was once a Royal Burgh of West Lothian. It is situated 10 miles from the centre of the capital city, on the shore of the Firth of Forth. Queensferry is known for a tradition of "Loony dook" where people dive into the freezing waters of the Firth of Forth on New Year's Day in fancy dress.
The town is named after Saint Margaret of Scotland, who would cross the firth by ferry from "Queen's Ferry" to visit a chapel at Edinburgh Castle. This was also the departure point of her journey for interment at Dunfermline Abbey, in 1093.
