South Ockendon

South Ockendon is village in south of the English county of Essex, within the London Commuter Belt. The village has been established since before the Norman Invasion and is supposedly named after the Saxon chief, Woken. It follows a traditional village layout, centred on the village green, with a Norman Church and 17th century "The Royal Oak" tavern. It also has close associations with the founding of the United States as many of the Pilgrim Fathers who sailed for the new world in The Mayflower originated from the village.

This is an historic and pleasant part of the county that boasts excellent transport links, and good choice of holiday accommodation, including several caravan parks, hotels, and guest houses, along with good local shopping prospects and a varied selection of pubs and restaurants. Popular attractions in the wider area include Colchester Castle, Colchester Zoo, Waltham Abbey, Mangapps Railway Museum, Epping Forest, and Hedingham Castle, to name only a handful, along with all the sites and attractions of London, which is just a stone's throw away.
