South Brent

The large village of South Brent lies in the valley of the River Avon in the attractive county of Devon amidst beautiful natural scenery and breathtaking vistas. Also located at the edge of the diverse region of Dartmoor and within the boundary of the protected Dartmoor National Park, South Brent is the perfect place for visitors who love nature, bird-watching, discovering wildlife habitats and lovely walks. Once at the heart of a thriving woollen industry, the village hosted a market as well as fairs that encouraged trade and brought prosperity.

The village offers visitors ample amenities and shops, public houses and eateries as well as a wealth of historic, cultural and visitor attractions in the surrounding area. The history of South Brent is written in the ruins, historic sites and monuments to be found here and nearby, including; the ruins of an ancient building that may have been a chapel on Brent Hill, a windmill built around 1790, Bronze Age huts, circles, enclosures and barrows on the moors and many more. Each year the village hosts a ‘Brentathon’, an entertainment event in November with live music and poetry that brings visitors from far and wide to enjoy the atmosphere and colour of celebration.
