Shropshire

The county of Shropshire in the West Midlands region of England, on the border with Wales is home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ironbridge Gorge; a deep gorge formed by the River Severn that produced coal, iron ore, limestone and clay for the manufacture of iron, tiles and porcelain that was easily transported on the deep, wide river. There is much history to explore in Shropshire in places like Ludlow Castle, the county town of Shrewsbury where Charles Darwin was born, the black and white town of Much Wenlock, medieval Bridgnorth located dramatically on a cliff overlooking the River Severn, the Severn Valley Railway, the fascinating RAF Museum and the Cosford World Heritage Site as well as countless Medieval Castles, and ancient churches.

Shropshire is a beautiful county offering a variety of landscapes including the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that covers around a quarter of the county, the majestic Clee Hills, Britain’s longest river the Severn and one of the most recognisable landmarks The Wrekin, a hill rising to a height of 1,335 feet above the Shropshire Plain that is popular with walkers and those seeking the spectacular views it offers.
